Word of Encouragement to Artists.

Disclaimer: let me start by saying I do not have the answers to the question of how to handle the current digital content creation situation. I am in the same boat as all the creators and artists frustrated with what is happening on social media when it comes to content views.

I have already written about the problems I run into trying to book gigs for my solo act, and my last several blogposts have basically been journal entries about trying to get views on line.

Now this is relevant to both of those things, but especially to the online part. Because some of the platforms (if not all of them) are making changes to their algorithm, particularly instagram. I was using the strategy where I post lots of hashtags relating to singer/songwriter pages, and then I would try to find content that other creators were posting under the same category. Around the time I started seeing a major drop in my views, I noticed that the other singer/songwriters were experiencing the same thing. I saw many posts about no longer getting views, no longer being able to implement known hashtag strategies, etc.

While this may sound discouraging, I was kind of relieved to learn that this was a widespread phenomenon. I didn’t all of a sudden start doing something wrong. But nonetheless, this does present a problem.

Personally, I have changed some of my strategies and I have discovered some channels that I think might really be helpful. However, I am going to wait and see if implementing their strategies pays off before I start recommending anything. In the meantime, if you wanna help an artist out, you could watch (and like/comment/subscribe) this YT video. It was very fun to make.

So… yeah. With that shameless plug out of the way, I just wanted to jump on here and say we are not the problem. Tech companies have always been unpredictable and online content creation is hard to keep up with. I personally plan to keep at it just as hard if not harder and see what happens. However you decide to handle this situation, best of luck!
