I started a YouTube channel, folks! YouTube is intriguing, but I do not know much about the algorithm. The relatively new feature “shorts” as I expected seems to drive more views than regular videos. For some reason I just think the platform seems like a lot of fun. It’s almost feels like more of a commitment than instagram. While things can be uploaded and deleted from instagram, facebook, and youtube just as easily, it seems that things are deleted or at least forgotten more often and quickly on every platform except Youtube. I still wanted to post some of my full-length videos on YouTube, so I have embedded my second and so far favorite video, “Young Hero.”
I really appreciate any likes and subscriptions, and comments. If you don’t like it, I would even welcome negative comments. I both want to know what I could be doing better (and negative comments help the algorithm just like positive ones).
YouTube vs Other Platforms
YouTube is becoming more like other platforms with the new shorts, but it just has a different vibe from other platforms. While things can be uploaded and deleted just about as easily on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, YouTube videos feel like a bigger deal. It at least seems like posts are deleted or forgotten more quickly and more often on other social media.
When it comes to the art of making reels or shorts, YouTube is more raw and pragmatic. I always found it easy to go crazy while making reels with making different messages pop up at different times and fitting the image to the screen perfectly and making sure the image was straight etc. Most of that is either not possible or just more limited on shorts. That’s my initial impression but maybe I’m just missing something.Due to the differences in how these videos are created, and the difference in audience, my instagram videos will likely be slightly different from my YouTube videos (just another reason to like and subscribe!)
YouTube also has more of a feedback mechanism for content creators. The dislikes on a YouTube video may no longer be displayed, but as the content creator, I can still see how many likes and dislikes the videos get. I am still learning how to read the other analytics and determine how I should proceed based on what they tell me. But rest assured, no matter how well I play the algorithm, and no matter what type of feedback I get, I am going to keep posting singer songwriter videos one way or the other.
Conclusion
Well, thank you for reading! I hope you like my videos and subscribe. I really appreciate any interest on YouTube and I will keep the videos coming!
