It’s been a while since I posted on my blog. A lot has happened.
Most notably, I’ve released 6 songs under the album name “Ice on the Roses.” But a CLOSE second most importantly, I have scheduled “Ice on the Roses Volume II” for release on December 27th of 2024! I scheduled it for the end of 2024 because I wanted to make sure all of Ice on the Roses was released in 2024. For reasons I do not fully understand, Distrokid recommends scheduling a release for at least four weeks after the upload. Given how long it took me to finish writing, recording, and producing these songs, there was only one Friday left in 2024 by the time I added the four weeks.
As it ended up, it wouldn’t have mattered to me so much that the songs be released in 2024 if I had realized that I was going to release them on a separate EP. You see, I started releasing songs onto the Ice on the Roses album earlier in the year via “waterfall release.” This means that I released a few songs onto the digital streaming services and then later released more songs onto the same album. The six songs that make up Ice on the Roses were added in three separate releases.
That’s why I wanted everything to be released in the same year. I thought Ice on the Roses was going to end up being an album with 11 songs. But, alas, life happened and I couldn’t finish the songs as quickly as I wanted. By the time I finished the last five songs, certain things had changed. Most importantly, I had learned some valuable lessons about mixing and mastering that I wanted to apply to the new songs. I didn’t want to use my old methods since I think the production sounds a lot better with my new methods. But I also didn’t really want to have an album that changes it’s mix about halfway through. So I decided to make the last five songs “Ice on the Roses Volume II.” And I still went out of my way to make sure they came out before the end of 2024. I was ready to start on new projects, and what better time to do that than the new year? I also was afraid that without any hard deadline, I would keep trying to perfect the songs forever. Keeping my December 27th deadline helped me get the songs finished.
So, anyway, I am super excited about the songs that are releasing on the 27th, and I hope you check them out! Not only does the production sound better than my earlier work, but the track list includes my two favorite songs that I have ever written (specifically “Young Hero,” and “Parking Spaces”). Nothing against the other three songs. I am super proud of them as well.
I hope someday, I will remaster all the tracks and release them as an album with 11 songs. In the meantime, I would encourage you to listen to Volumes I and II back to back as the journey of the album is meant to start with the first song of the last volume and end on the last song on the second volume.
But enough about me. I have thought about, listened to, and talked about the songs on Ice on the Roses Volume II quite a bit over the past few months. It might do me good to move onto some other topics. Good thing my blog is back!
